How Gum Disease Occurs In The Mouth, And How To Prevent It

How Gum Disease Occurs In The Mouth, And How To Prevent It

Reviewing The Causes Of Periodontal Disease

Some of the symptoms of gum disease are bleeding gums when brushed or flossed or swollen gums. Gum disease infects and eventually can destroy the tissue that supports the teeth, leading to tooth loss. The cause is bacteria in the dental plaque, a substance that forms on the teeth and tongue. The body tries to get rid of this bacteria and releases substances that cause inflammation and destruction of gums and the surrounding tissue. It can be prevented by brushing twice per day and a regular visit to the dentist to remove the plaque located in places less accessible to a toothbrush. Failure to do this will extend the plaque below the gum line, away from the reach of the toothbrush, resulting in gum disease. However, bacteria are not the only reason of gum disease – check the full list. More Information click here.
